In the fall of 2002, the Corporate Governance Initiative of the German Real Estate Industry (“Initiative Corporate Governance der deutschen Immobilienwirtschaft e.V.“) was launched as non-profit organisation. Leading real estate companies have since joined the initiative. The initiative has set itself the goal to develop and endorse the principles of transparent and professional corporate management within the real estate industry. True to this goal, the initiative has already achieved various important results since its inception. For instance, it articulated and ratified the “Principles of Proper and Fair Management in the Real Estate Economy.” These guidelines place industry members under the obligation to give particular consideration to ideals such as professionalism and transparency.
