Berlin, 30.01.2020 - The ZIA Association's New Year's reception took place in Berlin at the end of January. Invited were Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier and Federal Minister of Construction Horst Seehofer, who spoke out in favor of the social market economy and clearly against rent caps, land value tax and expropriation in their speeches.

In addition to these keynote speakers, the program also included a roundtable discussion by ZIA member associations BVI, GCSC, GEFMA and IVD. Martin Schenk, CEO of STRABAG PFS and recently appointed Chairman of the GEFMA Executive Board, represented the facility management (FM) sector in this role. Politically relevant topics included climate protection and sustainability - two areas for which FM companies bear responsibility and must take a clear position.

"We only have a limited amount of resources. If we don't use them wisely, it can seriously affect the lives of future generations. FM companies that do not focus on sustainable development and optimization of resources will drastically lose their market share in the next decade," explained Martin Schenk. He also focused on GEFMA Guideline 160 for the real estate industry, which has created a basis by defining sustainability in FM and interfaces to the sustainability of real estate.

The associations ZIA as the Central Real Estate Committee and umbrella organization of the real estate industry, IVD Immobilienverband Deutschland, BVI Bundesverband der Immobilienverwalter, GEFMA German Facility Management Association and GCSC German Council of Shopping Centers jointly hosted the New Year's reception.
