In the middle of Vienna's Leopoldstadt district, an urban quarter is being built that is not only architecturally impressive, but also breaks new ground in terms of energy. Lohr Gebäudetechnik GmbH, a STRABAG PFS company, is building one of the largest sustainable anergy networks in Europe between the historic Krieau trotting track and the U2 subway line. Part of the power plant at the trotting track is already in operation and is being extended step by step in the south.

What is an anergy network - and why is it so forward-looking?

An anergy network, also known as a "cold local heating network", transports energy from groundwater and geothermal energy at a low temperature level to buildings, where it is efficiently processed by heat pumps. The special feature: It can be used for both heating and cooling - completely without fossil fuels.

Technology that inspires and convinces
The anergy network Krieau supplies around 10,000 people with CO₂-neutral heating and cooling from an area of 450,000 m². The following technology is used:

In total, the technical center has a water capacity of around 1,000 bathtubs, a full 160,000 liters - enough to act as an energy storage system on demand between the buildings.

Supplied by the anergy network Krieau: Grünblick is a showcase project for sustainable living
The "Grünblick" residential project with 340 condominiums is the first building in the urban quarter to be connected to the anergy network realized by Lohr. The residential building was constructed by STRABAG and, with its generous window areas, flexible floor plans and future-oriented technical infrastructure, combines high living comfort with sustainable operation. Lohr Gebäudetechnik was not only responsible for the energy supply, but also for the implementation of the entire building technology, from heating and ventilation to electrical engineering.

A look into the future
In addition to the "Grünblick", the "Weitblick" is currently being developed and realized by STRABAG. The high-rise building offers modern office space, a high-quality hotel, flexible conference rooms, co-working spaces and exclusive catering facilities including a sky bar under one roof and will also be supplied from the Krieau power plant. This means that not only is a new urban quarter growing in Vienna, but also a model for the energy supply of tomorrow.

This impressive project demonstrates the expertise of STRABAG PFS in the construction of building technology. With bundled competence in planning, construction and operation, STRABAG PFS offers the entire portfolio of building solutions from a single source.
