Westbahn extends long-term cooperation with STRABAG PFS and expands scope of services on southern line
Frankfurt/Vienna 20.4.2026
Westbahn has once again extended its existing contract with STRABAG Property and Facility Services Austria (STRABAG PFS) on a long-term basis. The company is thus continuing to rely on its proven partnership with STRABAG PFS and the provider’s comprehensive cleaning services. At the same time, Westbahn has now also commissioned the service provider to perform work for the new expansion on the southern line between Vienna and Villach.
STRABAG PFS has been Westbahn’s exclusive IFM service provider since operations began in 2011 and, in addition to the trains, also cleans shops and offices at all Westbahn locations along the main transport routes – including Vienna, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Bregenz, Munich and Stuttgart. The company has been supporting the continuous expansion of the rail network for many years and continues to grow alongside the client as part of this renewed contract extension. Since March, Westbahn has been operating additional services from Vienna via Graz to Villach and has extended the contract with STRABAG PFS to cover this network expansion.
The work performed includes the cleaning of the 22 trainsets on the expanded route network in 365 nights per year. This comprises the nightly interior cleaning of all carriages, windscreen cleaning, and ad hoc cleaning as required during ongoing operations at the respective stations. By using state-of-the-art cleaning technology, STRABAG PFS ensures efficient and resource-saving processes. In addition, the company carries out special cleaning tasks, in particular the professional removal of graffiti.
Westbahn was founded in 2008 and has been operating cross-border passenger services between Austria and Germany since December 2011. Since its maiden journey in 2011, STRABAG PFS has been on board as the sole IFM service provider and, with a workforce now numbering between 45 and 50, supports the company across its ever-expanding route network. Westbahn is one of the established private operators in European long-distance rail transport and now carries around 10 million passengers annually.
